Hemp, the Healthy Story

Hemp is one of the oldest utility plants in the world. Also in Bornholm, hemp has been cultivated for hundreds of years. According to the writings of The Royal Danish Agricultural Society (ed. 1804), hemp has been a widespread commercial plant in Bornholm throughout history.

With the development of industrial hemp, which is a refined hemp, it has become possible to cultivate hemp legally and utilize all of its potentials, yet again.

The hemp plant absorbs large amounts of CO2 with its vigorous leaf growth, which is converted to oxygen during photosynthesis, hemp is a hardy plant that can be grown without the use of pesticides and weed control agents, furthermore at Bornholmerhampen our production is biodynamic. This means i.a. that we use homeopathic preparations to strengthen soil and plants, just as the biodynamic cultivation helps to strengthen biodiversity in and around the field. Hemp has a multitude of applications. At Bornholmerhampen, our main product is the biodynamic hemp tea, a Nordic green herbal tea if you will.

 Biodynamic hemp tea

Our biodynamic hemp tea is handpicked, sorted and dried on Bornholm. This hemp tea consists of the dried leaves and flowers of the hemp plant. It is a variety of the EU-registered industrial hemp, which is characterized by not having a euphoric effect, however, the plant has a number of health-promoting properties.

We have had the hemp tea analyzed, these analyzes show that the antioxidant activity in hemp tea is almost three times higher than both black and green tea, just as it has a high content of, for example, magnesium and calcium. This means that the customer gets a tasty herbal tea that is also super healthy and super sustainable.

The history of hemp tea goes back thousands of years, both in ancient Egypt, in India and in China, hemp tea has been valued as a medicinal herbal tea. Thus, the mythical emperor and founder of Chinese herbal medicine Shen Nung (around 2737 B.C.) recommended the herbal hemp tea against inflammation, rheumatism, malaria, memory problems and not least stupidity!

Hemp tea has a mild and slightly spicy taste and is an excellent lunch or evening tea – or just for a quiet moment. Prepare the tea with boiling water and let it brew for 10 - 12 minutes and enjoy a moment of peace and contemplation.
